HEN Urban Farm & Food Systems Bus Tour
Date: October 15
- Location: Westin Boston Waterfront (Summer St.)
Join the Hunger and Environmental DPG for our annual Urban Farm and Food Systems Bus Tour. On our way to our first stop we will hear from an Organic Valley farmer on their cooperative model and why organic practices are healthy for the environment, animals, and people. Our first stop will be Brigham and Women's Hospital to tour facilities and hear about their progress in sustainability practices throughout their food service operations. The tour then stops at Community Servings where each week 9,600 meals are prepared and delivered to individuals and families home bound and living with critical and chronic illnesses -- all while training those who face barriers to employment and increasing community access to local food. At Haley House we will enjoy lunch, time to connect, and hear about the social enterprises they run, employment programs, urban agriculture, nutrition education, and food and meal programs they offer. Our final stop is Groundwork Somerville's South Street Urban Farm, the first in this community, where we will hear about Groundwork Somerville's work at the intersection of food access and environmental justice. CPEUs requested.
